How this plan works

  • Where it starts. Mark first, the shortest Gospel, then Genesis for the beginning of the story, then John. After them come Exodus 1–20 and the Ten Commandments, Psalms 1–23, Acts, Ruth, Proverbs 1–9, Luke, Romans, Philippians, James and 1 John. The order is our own choice for a first read.
  • A short reading a day. 225 chapters over 181 days is about 40 verses a day, five to ten minutes. The longest day is 80 verses, the shortest 14.
  • Your ticks stay here. Ticks are kept in this browser. The copied link holds your choices, so it opens the same plan on another device; the ticks don't travel with it.

Questions

Where should a beginner start reading the Bible?

Many readers start with a Gospel. This plan opens with Mark, 16 short chapters, so the first two weeks are the life of Jesus from start to finish, then turns to Genesis and the start of the story.

Should a beginner read the Bible cover to cover?

You can. A cover-to-cover plan reaches the laws of Leviticus and Numbers in its first two months, which is slow going on a first read. This plan starts with the stories instead; once it is done, the one year plan reads everything in order.

How long does it take each day?

About 40 verses, five to ten minutes at a steady pace. Pick a year instead of six months and it is about 20 verses a day.

Can I read only on weekdays?

Yes. Open Reading days and untick Saturday and Sunday. The same chapters spread over the days you keep, so the plan still ends on its last date.
