How this plan works
- One Gospel, one chapter a day. Luke has 24 chapters, so from December 1 to December 24 is one chapter a day: the births of John and Jesus in the first two days; the Last Supper, the cross and the empty tomb in the last three.
- About 48 verses a day. The shortest day is 31 verses, the longest 80 (chapter 1, the angel's visits and Mary's song).
- Your ticks stay here. Ticks are kept in this browser. The copied link holds your choices, so it opens the same plan on another device; the ticks don't travel with it.
Questions
When does Advent start in 2026?
Advent 2026 begins on Sunday, November 29. This plan starts on December 1 so the 24 chapters of Luke end on Christmas Eve; set the start to November 29 and the end stays December 24 if you want to begin with Advent Sunday.
Why read Luke in Advent?
Luke tells the most about Jesus's birth: Zechariah and Elizabeth, the angel's visit to Mary, the shepherds and Simeon in the temple, all in the first two chapters.
Can I read a different Gospel for Advent?
Yes. Change the order to the Gospel of John or the four Gospels; the dates stay December 1 to 24 and the readings spread over them.
Can a family read it together?
Yes. At about 48 verses, a chapter takes five to eight minutes aloud. Print the plan and tick a box each evening.
